Mabou Market & Red Shoe Run June 9th

A decent day was in order with good driving weather for our run to the  lovely village of Mabou, located on the Ceilidh Trail. After our rendezvous meetup, we set out from Sydney to the Northside for a beautiful scenic ride over Barrrachois Mountain, through Ironville, Boisdale, Christmas Island to Iona. As we made our way along, we eventually took the Orangedale Road which will be sporting the latest shade of black asphalt, next time around. That’s something to look forward to!! Once onto the TCH we continued our trek to Mabou.

Arriving in Mabou we made our way to the Mabou Farmer’s Market held between 11 & 2 Sundays, June to mid October. Everything imaginable is offered for sale here and all home spun. You can grab a bite & listen to some music while browsing the many displays of local goods. It’s a great spot to pick up that unique gift for someone.

The Mabou Farmers Market

On our list of things to do on this venture was a stop at the  Red Shoe Pub, owned by musicians, the Rankin Sisters. After a good bite to eat and some friendly banter we set off on our own trails for a return ride home. Some stayed awhile in Mabou, taking in a hike on the Mabou River Trail, visiting the Mother of Sorrows Shrine and of course, back to the Farmers’ Market for some last minute shopping. It was a great day and one of the first longer runs of the season with no hiccups!
